Capping

“Capping” is a deceptive practice in casinos where a player secretly adds chips to an already placed bet after the outcome is known but before the dealer finalizes the bet. This illegal maneuver aims to increase the winnings by sneaking in more chips, hoping the dealer doesn’t notice the change. It’s called “capping” because the player is effectively placing a cap—an additional layer—on their original bet.

In most cases, capping occurs during fast-paced games like blackjack or poker, where the dealer’s attention might be momentarily diverted. If caught, the consequences are severe, often leading to ejection from the casino, permanent bans, or even legal action. Casinos have strict surveillance and trained staff to detect such cheating tactics, making capping a high-risk and unethical move that can lead to significant penalties for those who attempt it.
